On Mar 11, a working conference was held under the agenda of building a National Model City of Mass Fitness and Sports.
The agenda, launched in 2018, has been broken into several parts. The Changzhou government has made efforts in various aspects, including building public sports facilities, reforming sports institutions, and improving competitive sports. It also encourages the development of sports-related industries and integrates sports into various spheres of people’s life.
Currently in Changzhou, the per capita sports area has reached 3.64㎡. People who regularly take part in physical exercise account for 42% of the total population. In 2020, Changzhou was listed among the first group of National Pilot Cities for Sports Consumption. The government has created a grading system for amateur sports, and holds over 30 sports events per year on average. It integrates sports into school curriculum for teenage students. With an aim to improve public health through sports, it establishes three guidance clinics for sports & health, carries out sports intervention projects for chronic diseases, and provides free screening of spinal problems for adolescent students. The Changzhou International Sports Rehabilitation Meeting has been held for five consecutive years.
