On October 30th, the fourth International Forum on Water Security and Sustainability kicked off in Changzhou Campus, Hohai University. The event attracted nearly 200 academicians and experts.
At the opening ceremony, Tang Guishan, president of Hohai University, delivered a speech. According to him, water security has become a pressing issue for mankind, which calls for deeper international exchange and cooperation to share experience and achievements in water management. The forum aims to break down barriers between different disciplines, promote collaborative innovation, and become an open platform for decision-makers and practitioners in relevant fields. As lush mountains and lucid waters are invaluable asset, the forum will contribute to environmental protection and economic growth, shaping the harmonious co-existence between man and nature.
In her remarks, mayor Sheng Lei mentioned that Changzhou is a city developed with water. Currently, the city is forming a new pattern in water security and sustainable development. She sincerely hopes that the participants will raise suggestions on water security, contributing to Changzhou’s development as an ecological hub.
Sponsored by the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society, Hohai University, Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute, the forum was organized by Yangtze Institute for Conservation and Development. During the event, participants exchanged ideas on a wide range of topics, including integrated drainage basin management, risk management of climate change, smart hydraulic engineering, ecological conservation, major infrastructure construction, etc.
