Changzhou's consumer market remained buoyant during the three-day New Year holiday despite the cancellation of a number of New Year’s Eve festivities due to COVID-19 prevention measures, the Municipal Bureau of Commerce said Monday.
Key retail enterprises saw sales rise by 9.5 percent to 157.385 million yuan. Sales at nine shopping malls in the city soared 36.5 percent from a year earlier to 173.232 million yuan. Service consumption also picked up during the period, with catering businesses jumping 2.5 percent year on year. The Lingjiatang Wholesale Market announced sales of 402.164 million yuan, an increase of 9.3 percent.
