Changzhou witnessed a boom in tourism and consumption during the May Day holiday, which runs from May 1 to 5 this year.
As revealed by statistics from the Bureau of Culture, Broadcasting and Tourism, a total of 4.7551 million visits were made to the 93 tourist spots and resorts in the city, up 140.65 percent from last year. The total revenue reached 395.5353 million RMB (about 61.05 million USD), registering an increase of 183.93 percent year-on-year.
Tourists paid 1.1437 million visits to the nine 4A and 5A-level tourist spots in Changzhou, contributing to 177.223 million yuan (about 27.36 million USD) in revenue, up 97.41 percent and 142.31 percent respectively from last year. The consumption engine has completely recovered to the level in 2019.
The Universal Dinosaur Town received 437,000 visits, with the overall revenue surpassing that in 2019. Various tourism websites have ranked China Dinosaur Park as one of the top ten tourist destinations in China during the five-day holiday.
Data from Changzhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce shows that during the holiday period, 44 of the city’s closely-watched retailers including catering businesses, and its nine major shopping malls saw their sales volume stand at 530 million yuan (about 81.83 million USD), surging 27 percent over the same period last year. The average daily sales recorded 106.022 million RMB (about 16.36 million USD), a 16.5 percent surge over the same period during 2019.
The Lingjiatang Wholesale Market for Agricultural Products registered 464.346 million yuan (about 71.67 million USD) in sales volume, up 6.4 percent year-on-year, with average daily sales at 92.869 million yuan (about 14.34 million USD), up by 6.1 percent from 2019.
