Changzhou celebrates conclusion of 2023 China Open

The 2023 China Open in Changzhou, recently wrapped up with thrilling matches and memorable moments. Denmark's world champion, Viktor Axelsen, secured the men's singles title by defeating China's Lu Guangzu in the grand finale. In addition, Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang claimed victory in the men's doubles, while Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan emerged as the women's doubles champions. These exceptional athletes are now set to share the substantial $2,000,000 prize pool, second only to the BWF World Tour Finals in this season's calendar.

As a BWF World Tour Super 1000 event, the China Open attracted the top 15 singles players and the best of the top 10 doubles pairs worldwide. Many Asian players used this premier event to refine their skills and prepare for the upcoming Asian Games in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.

While global stars like Viktor Axelsen, Shi Yuqi, and Tai Tzu-ying naturally took center stage, the passion and enthusiasm of the spectators showcased the deep cultural connection between the city and badminton. Their excitement wasn't just for the stars but also for the sheer beauty of the sport and the determination of each player to chase their dreams.

Since its inception in 2008, the China Open has made a lasting impact on Changzhou, particularly among its amateur badminton community. The event has spurred increased local participation in the sport and facilitated interactions between world champions and young enthusiasts, fueling further interest.

Today, Changzhou boasts impressive statistics in the world of badminton: over 60,000 amateur badminton players across various age groups, more than 1,100 standard badminton courts, and nearly 80 established badminton clubs. The China Open's presence has not only enhanced the city's sports infrastructure but has also played a pivotal role in cultivating a vast community of badminton enthusiasts. A recent survey showed an overwhelming 92% of respondents crediting the China Open with positively impacting Changzhou's badminton landscape.
