On September 1, Wujin National High-tech Industrial Zone (WIZ) and Xidian University held a signing ceremony to jointly build the YRD Compound Semiconductor Innovation Base. Qi Jiabin, secretary of the CPC Changzhou Municipal Committee, and Prof. Hao Yue, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, attended the event.
Xidian University is one of the first group of nine institutes nationwide approved as integrated circuit talent training bases. It has also established the National Engineering Research Center of Wide Band-gap Semiconductor.
Qi Jiabin said that Changzhou, having a good foundation in the integrated circuit industry, is now working on a strategic plan to boost the third-generation semiconductor industry. He hopes that through this cooperation, the two sides will build the base with Xidian University’s expertise and R&D capacity to support Changzhou’s integrated circuit industry.
Prof. Hao agreed with Changzhou’s idea of developing the compound semiconductor (CSC) industry, for CSC has become a new drive and trend for the integrated circuit (IC) industry. Xidian University believes that, through in-depth cooperation with Changzhou, more of its technologies will be transferred in Changzhou to empower the IC industry in the Yangtze River Delta.
According to the agreement, the two sides will jointly establish the Changzhou Branch of the National Engineering Research Center of Wide Band-gap Semiconductor, which will be committed to cultivating microelectronics talent together with other colleges in Changzhou.
City leaders Fang Guoqiang, Liang Yibo and Li Lin attended the signing ceremony.
