A conference on the green development of Yangtze River Economic Belt was held in Changzhou on January 9.
Party Secretary Qi Jiabin said at the conference that following the guiding principles of the CPC Central Committee and the deployment plan of Jiangsu Provincial Government, in recent years Changzhou has gone great length to help balancing economic development and environmental restoration in the region. All the city’s chemical enterprises within one kilometer of the river have been closed or relocated. Fishing moratorium has been imposed in designated areas. Significant progress has been made in the green development of Yangtze River Economic Belt.
Fu Xiangsheng, vice chairman of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, and Wang Xiandong, vice director of Jiangsu Provincial Commission of Development and Reform, attended the conference and delivered speeches. They praised Changzhou’s achievements in protecting the Yangtze River, stressing the importance of balancing economic development and environmental restoration. To promote sustainable and high-quality development of the Yangtze River Basin, they urged eco-transformation of industries, enterprises and industrial parks in the region.
City leaders Zhou Bin, Fang Guoqiang and Liang Yibo attended the event.
In a meeting on the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt held in early 2016, President Xi Jinping stressed "green development" of the region and said to restore ecological environment would be an overwhelming task. Five years on, China has made significant progress over the past five years in the healthy and green development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
