Changzhou’s pioneering approach to sustainability and green energy transformation took center stage at the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 11 to 22.
At the side event titled "Public Participation Supporting the Construction of a Beautiful China," Huang Jianping, Deputy Director of Changzhou’s Ecology and Environment Bureau, participated in the launch of the Shanghai Climate Week Global Action Initiative. The event, themed “China Action, Asia Voice, Global Standard,” emphasized Asia's leadership role in driving the global green transition.
Hu Jin, director of Changzhou’s Zhonglou Ecology and Environment Bureau, delivered a keynote address on the city’s innovative “New Energy, New City, New Life” model. His speech highlighted how Changzhou’s development as a hub for new energy technologies is accelerating its green and low-carbon transformation, setting new benchmarks for sustainable urban growth.
Changzhou’s achievements in renewable energy, urban regeneration, and promoting low-carbon lifestyles were celebrated at COP29. The city’s successful efforts were recognized as a model of high-quality, sustainable development, showcasing how local actions can contribute to achieving global climate goals.
